Business insurance review checklist
For Melbourne businesses and professional firms. Prepared by CPRS Insurance Services, 29 October 2026.
Use these questions to prepare for a discussion with your broker. This is general information, not a recommendation to buy a particular policy.
1. Describe what your business actually does
List your services, clients, industries and any changes in activities. Professional indemnity discussions should reflect your actual work, including financial planning or AFSL activities where relevant.
2. Identify what has changed
Consider new contracts, staff, technology, business locations and board responsibilities. Ask whether your insurance programme still reflects these changes.
3. Bring questions about obligations and gaps
Which contractual insurance requirements need discussion? What exclusions, limits and conditions should you understand? Ask about professional indemnity, D&O or management liability and cyber exposures relevant to your work.
4. Discuss difficult risks early
If cover has been declined or your work is difficult to classify, describe the issue to your broker. A discussion of insurer options is not a guarantee that cover will be available.
5. Keep the first enquiry brief
Explain the question you want to discuss. Do not send policy numbers, documents, sensitive claim details or health and financial information through the general enquiry form.
